PED and WBDA Training for Pressure Equipment and Piping

This PED and WBDA training course focuses on the application of the Pressure Equipment Directive, PED 2014/68/EU, and the Dutch Commodities Act Decree on Pressure Equipment within industrial projects. In practice, PED is rarely about theory alone. It is about correctly defining scope and obligations. Especially in brownfield modifications, replacements and extensions, the distinction between mandatory and optional requirements is often unclear.

This regularly leads to unnecessary calculations, overly heavy conformity assessment module choices and more involvement from a Notified Body than necessary. In this training course, you learn how to classify pressure equipment correctly, determine the correct PED category and conformity assessment module, and identify when inspections such as KVI are actually required. The emphasis is on making the right technical decisions under PED and WBDA in Dutch practice, from new-build projects to modifications and the management of existing installations.

Dutch Commodities Act Decree on Pressure Equipment and PED in practice, 2014/68/EU

A PED training course focuses on understanding and applying legislation and regulations relating to pressure equipment. All pressure equipment, piping systems and installations with an allowable pressure of 0.5 bar or higher must comply with PED and the national legislation resulting from it, such as WBDA. In this training course, you gain insight into the background of the regulations, the classification of equipment and the consequences of recent changes for both new-build projects and existing installations.

During this PED and WBDA training course, you receive a clear overview of the regulations and their practical application.

After completing this training course, you will understand:

  • what PED and WBDA involve and how they are connected

  • how pressure equipment is classified and categorised

  • which obligations apply to new-build projects and assemblies

  • when inspections and periodic re-inspections are required

  • how modifications and repairs fall within the regulatory framework

Evening 1: PED Classifications and the Technical Basis
  • Scope and definition of PED, 2014/68/EU, within industrial installations
  • Application limits and exemptions under Article 1.2
  • Relationship between PED, for new-build projects, and WBDA, for commissioning and the operational phase
  • Classification of pressure equipment, including vessels, piping systems and accessories
  • Determining the fluid group based on the CLP Regulation, fluid groups 1 and 2
  • Gas versus liquid based on vapour pressure at design temperature
  • Application of PED tables for vessels and piping
  • Determining the PED category based on PS, volume and DN: SEP and Categories I to IV
  • Essential Safety Requirements, ESR, and their implications for design and fabrication
  • Relationship between PED and design standards such as EN 13480, EN 13445 and ASME
  • Distinction between regulatory requirements and detailed engineering
  • Introduction to conformity assessment
  • Overview of modules and their relationship to the PED category

    Case 1: Classification and Category Determination

  • Determining the fluid group, phase and correct PED table
  • Establishing the PED category
  • Determining KVI obligations based on process data
Evening 2: Conformity, Documentation and Brownfield Application
  • In-depth review of conformity assessment modules: A, A2, B, B+F, C2, G, H and H1
  • Selecting the correct module for each application and organisation
  • Minimum requirements versus project-specific requirements within modules
  • Role of the Notified Body, EU-CBI, in design assessment, inspection and certification
  • When involvement is mandatory and when it can be avoided
  • Structure and content of the design dossier
  • Required design documentation, calculations, material certificates and inspections
  • CE marking and EU Declaration of Conformity
  • Link between engineering, QC and conformity assessment
  • Inspection before commissioning, KVI, and the role of the NL-CBI
  • Relationship between PED and WBDA within the Dutch context
  • Obligations during the operational phase, including inspections and reassessments
  • Modifications and repairs in existing installations
  • Like-for-like replacements versus scope extensions
  • Impact of changes on PED classification and obligations

The training course also provides valuable insight for professionals responsible for compliance with the Dutch Commodities Act Decree on Pressure Equipment.

The WBDA/PED training course consists of two evening sessions from 17:30 to 22:00. Course materials and a certificate of participation are included. The fee is €745 per person, excluding VAT.
