Lesson programme
During this in depth training course, consisting of nine half day sessions of three hours, you learn step by step how to deal with uncertainty and tension in a professional context. We look beyond superficial tips and focus on the core of your behaviour. You learn to observe objectively, identify the causes of sub assertive behaviour and gain insight into non verbal communication. Using proven theories and techniques, you learn to make clear statements, refuse requests professionally and enter into and steer business conversations with confidence.
This intensive pathway consists of nine half day sessions, covering the following pillars:
- Insight and causes: what is assertiveness? Explanation of sub assertive behaviour, non verbal communication and managing tension.
- Communication and empathy: working with assumptions, questioning techniques, objective observation and strengthening empathic ability.
- Boundaries and language: applying Rational Emotive Therapy, using assertive language and professionally refusing requests by learning to say no.
- Conversation techniques: conducting conversations using LSD and STAR, with specific focus on performance and appraisal conversations.
- Presentation and practice: assertive rights, giving a speech or elevator pitch, and intensive role play, possibly with an actor, to firmly embed the theory.

Focus on technical practice
We train with situations you actually encounter: communicating bad news about a project schedule, addressing a colleague about agreements, or giving a technical presentation to directors.
In depth theory and models
We work with concrete, practical models that give you direct support. You learn to work with Rational Emotive Therapy to address limiting thoughts, and you use conversation models such as LSD, meaning listening, summarising and asking follow up questions, and the STAR method for performance and appraisal conversations.
Practising with a training actor
Theory only really comes to life in practice. A large part of this training course, including the final sessions, can be delivered with the involvement of a professional training actor.
In safe but realistic role play exercises, you practise your new skills and experience directly how your assertive attitude changes the course of a conversation.
The importance of assertiveness at work
When technical professionals struggle to speak up, valuable input often goes unheard. This leads to unrealistic project schedules, unnecessary work pressure and frustration.
By investing in a professional assertiveness training course, you learn to set boundaries without damaging the relationship with a client or colleague. You become familiar with your assertive rights and develop the ability to deliver a strong elevator pitch or speech. This helps you present yourself more strongly and increase your impact within the organisation.
Ready to move past uncertainty and communicate your technical expertise with conviction? Enrol in the assertiveness training course at Dosign Academy and develop the skills to position yourself firmly and professionally in the workplace.
